Lawrence Technological University owes its creation to one of the pioneers of American industry and innovation. Henry Ford, who created and produced the Model T car, provided space in one of his decommissioned assembly plants during the 1930's to start the school. Today, Lawrence Technological University focuses on innovative design and engineering solutions. The school, which is frequently referred to as Lawrence Tech, is committed to applying abstract ideas to solve real world problems. This private university is located in Southfield, Michigan on a campus of 107 acres. It is considered to be one of the most popular and successful private technological universities in the country.

Degrees from Lawrence Technological University have a higher earning power and are ranked in the top 30 percent of all universities. The university has been recognized for having a wireless campus, promoting the advancement of teaching, being a military friendly school and using sustainable infrastructure and advanced architectural methods and materials. The university owns a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home that is open for academic study. Lawrence Technological University offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The university is divided into four colleges: Engineering, Management, Arts and Sciences and Architecture and Design. The most popular majors are architecture, computer science and mechanical engineering.

There are around 2,800 undergraduate students, about half are full-time and the other half part-time. There are around 1,200 graduate students. The campus is predominately male, with only about 25 percent female students. Two-thirds of students are Michigan residents and the rest are out-of-staters. Over 70 percent of freshmen return the following year. There are over 30,000 alumni spread around the world. The faculty to student ratio is 11 to one. Over 70 percent of undergraduate classes have fewer than 19 students. About 80 percent of the 115 full-time faculty have doctoral degrees. There are absolutely no classes taught by teaching assistants or graduate students. All incoming undergraduate students receive laptops to use for the school year.

Lawrence Technological University Application Requirements

Lawrence Technological University maintains a rolling admission and they have a 76 percent acceptance rate. The average high school GPA is over 3.4, the average SAT score is 1140 and the average ACT score is 25. Students who wish to apply for graduate school to take a campus or online program, such as the Master's in Information Technology degree, must all submit certain documents. These include a completed application, three letters of recommendation and official college transcripts from all higher learning institutions attended. All four colleges maintain separate application requirements. Graduate applicants may be required to submit additional documentation. Lawrence Technological University doesn't require the GRE, but students are encouraged to submit their official test score as supplemental information. It takes two to three weeks for an admission decision to be processed and students to be notified.

Lawrence Technological University Tuition and Financial Aid

Online graduate students will pay $930 per credit hour. Almost 85 percent of new students receive financial aid. For example, there are Federal Pell, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants. There are Work Study programs, traditional and alternative loans, military incentives and summer financial aid. Loans are the largest source of funding for a graduate education. There are many scholarships available, such as the Buell Honor scholarship that provides full tuition for four years. Recipients must have a high school GPA of 3.8 or higher, excellent ACT or SAT scores and be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours each semester. The Presidential scholarship provides $16,000 every year, but recipients must have a high school GPA of 3.8 or higher and an ACT score of 30 or an SAT score of 1320.

The online Master's in Information Technology degree provides students with the technical expertise and business proficiency needed to create change in organizations and communities. The Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) delivers the knowledge and expertise necessary to advance careers, broaden academic options and achieve lifelong success. The curriculum prepares graduates to interact with finance, engineering, manufacturing and other business functions in order to enhance existing information technology systems. Students learn how to test and foolproof their innovative ideas about data, systems and information enhancement. Every student is assigned a faculty adviser as a mentor to help the student achieve their academic and professional goals. Lawrence Technological University's programs are dedicated to supporting students throughout the academic experience. Students are exposed to insightful industry trends and advanced theories that promote managerial learning and development.

The program also encourages the cultivation of global, systems and organizational thinking to advance efficiency and sustainability. There are three concentrations available: business analytics, information assurance and project management. Regardless of the concentration, all students will take a class in the business applications of statistical analysis. This course introduces students to probability and associated business uses. Students learn about descriptive statistics, random variables, continuous distributions and statistical testing. Another required class is business application programming, which introduces students to concepts like syntax, design, debugging and testing. Most students will learn the object-oriented programming languages Java and .NET. Students can also take classes in systems security, database modeling, technology integration, enterprise IT, systems analysis and enterprise IT infrastructure.

Lawrence Technological University is located in one of the busiest suburban areas of the Detroit metropolitan area, but the quiet campus contains park-like surroundings. Students are actively engaged on campus and in the community through the 60 clubs and organizations. This doesn't include the 20 National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) varsity teams and leagues. There are honors, academic and professional societies, such as the Student Senate, Greek organizations and scholarship study groups. The university encourages students to set up new groups through the Student Engagement Office.
