When looking for a fully accredited private college in Colorado, many students choose Regis University. Founded in 1877 as the Las Vegas College, it opened in New Mexico as a school operated by the Jesuits. The Jesuits later moved the campus to Colorado, where it went through a number of name changes before becoming Regis University. Though the campus initially offered both high school and college classes, it later moved its high school classes to a separate campus and established a Catholic high school. Though the university has an affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church, it accepts students of all denominations and backgrounds.

The Center for Service Learning is a unique department on its campus. Regis fosters in its students the importance of giving back to those who need help. This center allows students to sign up for opportunities and activities to help those who need homes build, people who cannot afford health care and those suffering from other problems. The university also brings in guest speakers and lecturers every year to give students a better idea of what people from different backgrounds go through. Regis also has an Institute for the Common Good that allows students to talk about their own experiences and hear from others facing similar issues. U.S. News & World Report routinely names Regis University as one of the best public colleges in the western region of the country.

Accreditation Details

Regis University ensures that students get everything they need through the accreditation that it obtained over the years. The most important type that it has comes from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS), which is a type of regional accreditation. With regional accreditation, students can transfer between schools and apply for financial aid. The university also has several different types of specialty accreditation like that from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, which applies to its pharmacy tech program. Its health information management program has accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy accredited its marriage and family graduate program. Regis University also has accreditation from the American Physical Therapy Association, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Teacher Education Accreditation Council and Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.

Application Requirements

Before applying to the university, Regis recommends that prospective students learn more about each program. Some of those programs have additional requirements that go beyond the general application requirements. Students can then submit an online application, which will go the admissions board. The admissions board looks at factors like a student's grade point average and the classes he or she took as an undergrad. While the application lets students fill out that information, they must also submit documents that prove everything on the application is correct, including a standardized test score and an official college transcript. Regis allows prospective students to contact the campus to check on the status of their applications.

Once the college receives that application, the student must contact the university and schedule an interview with a faculty member. The faculty member's recommendation will go a long way towards a student receiving an acceptance letter. Students must also apply for financial aid after finishing the application. Those who do not qualify for financial aid will need to make arrangements to pay their tuition costs. After receiving an acceptance letter, the student can create an online account with the site, find out about any prerequisites needed and sign up for classes.

Tuition and Financial Aid

While other colleges charge separate rates for in-state residents and students from other states, Regis University charges tuition rates based on the department associated with specific classes. Its certificate programs, which award graduates a certificate rather than a degree, charge a rate equal to $510 per credit hour. The rate for classes that culminate in a college degree is between $650 and $910 per credit hour. There is an application fee of $50 that all grad students must pay, and students are responsible for paying for a parking spot to park on the campus too.

Regis University offers a number of different programs that students can pay for their classes and other expenses. Tuition deferment lets students start classes and pay their tuition costs over 90 days, and the university also works with reimbursement plans through employers and offers discounts for military personnel. Regis recommends that students file the FAFSA around the beginning of May. Graduate students qualify for both grants and loans, but to receive loans, those students must take a full course load. Those taking fewer classes may apply for alternative loans that come from lenders not associated with the university itself.

M.S. Organization Leadership

The M.S. in Organization Leadership is a master's program offered by Regis University for students who have an undergrad degree in business and those who want to learn more about the business industry. Also known as the MS in Organization Leadership: Human Resource Management and Leadership, it looks specifically at the role of HR managers and directors. Unlike an MBA, which usually offers a broader look at business topics, this degree program primarily deals with human resources, including employee compensation, work benefits and hiring laws.

Students must take and pass 30 credit hours of classes. Three classes are core requirements that are worth nine credit hour total and include leading in a new era, business intelligence and a course designed to teach students the fundamentals of reading and writing at the graduate level. They then take six classes that are worth a total of 18 credits. One course teaches them how to gain the attention of new workers and find new talent, while a second course deals with creating benefits and compensation packages for workers. The last three credits required to graduate the program is a capstone course that looks at the ethics of leading others and working in organizations.
