University of Nevada, Reno, commonly referred to as UNR, is a public research institution residing in Reno, Nevada. It is the sole land grant university in the state. UNR offers more than 145 academic programs through nine schools of education. The schools include: College of Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources, College of Business, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, College of Engineering, College of Science, Reynolds School of Journalism, and Division of Health Sciences, and Graduate School. The current student to faculty ratio at UNR is 22 to one. The University of Nevada, Reno was established in 1874 as the State University of Nevada. The original location was in Elko, Nevada, which is about 300 miles away from Reno. The university moved to Reno in 1885. The university presented its first diplomas to three students in 1891. The university saw prosperous growth in the early 1900s. By 1958, the institution was home to 2,000 students and new colleges of education and business were established. In 1959, the Desert Research Institute was established as the university focuses on research about the land resources of Nevada. The School of Medical Sciences was established in 1969.

Throughout the last 35 years, UNR has met the trials of leadership and today it is home to more than 21,000 students. The U.S. News and World Report recognizes the University of Nevada, Reno as a National Tier 1 University.

The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities accredits the University of Nevada, Reno to grant bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, as well as certificate and licensure programs. Work Study

The Federal Work Study is available to eligible students who demonstrate financial need. Students work both on and off campus to earn money to pay for college related expenses. The positions work around the student's class schedule. Students usually work 20 hours a week or less and make at least minimum wage. Actual pay varies by employer, position, qualifications, skills, and job duties.

Online Degrees Available

The University of Nevada, Reno offers an Online Executive MBA program through the College of Business. The program is intended for working professionals who hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning and possess five or more years of professional work experience. The program is offered entirely online and it is a two-year cohort based program. The cohort enables students to begin the program together, move through courses at the same pace, and develop strong working relationships throughout the online program. Students must complete the program in two years and every year is split up into fall, spring, and summer semesters.

All courses run on a 12-week schedule. The curriculum is comprehensive and rigorous to enable students to develop excellent problem solving abilities to succeed in a complex and vigorous work environment. It requires the completion of 12 courses, totaling 36 credits, and every courses are sequenced to make sure learning in continuous. The core courses include statistics for decision making, production/operations management, financial reporting and analysis, economics of the firm, management and organizational science, financial management, and marketing management.

The breadth courses include personal branding, managing organizations in a global economy, strategic management for executives, information and communications technology in organizations, and seminar managerial accounting.

Graduates of the EMBA program will have the ability to solve complex problems, use evidence-based reasoning to understand, manage, and lead multifaceted entities, and the ability to incorporate qualitative and quantitative information into making difficult decisions.
