Northcentral University was founded in 1996 using the philosophy of United States President James A. Garfield who once described the ideal university as a "student on one end of a log and a teacher on the other." Instead of a 19th century log, Northcentral uses the 21st century internet to connect faculty to students who wish to further their education.
The school adopted a one-to-one teaching model based on the Oxford Learning Model, which partners one student with one faculty member in each course. The goal was to create a more personal learning experience so that students are able to gain valuable insight from a respected mentor.
Northcentral University's mission is to educate professionals throughout the world and provide accessible higher education to all students. The university is committed to helping students achieve academically and become valuable contributors locally, nationally and globally. The university proudly offers unprecedented access to a regionally accredited higher education. Their focus is on innovation, diversity, excellence and accountability.
All classroom sizes are limited to one student and the faculty is 100 percent doctoral. There are also no physical residency requirements as there are at some online colleges. Classes begin weekly adding to the flexibility of classes.
