Also known as FIT and Florida Tech, the Florida Institute of Technology is a private university located in Melbourne, Florida. Founded in 1958 as Brevard Engineering College, the school operates seven primary academic divisions that emphasize aviation, mathematics, engineering, technology, and science. Although the majority of students seek undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering and the sciences, FIT also offers degree programs in art, the liberal arts, psychology, and business.

Florida Institute of Technology Application Requirements

To be accepted into the online Master’s in Management degree program, students must submit a completed application as well as a nonrefundable application fee. Applicants are responsible for arranging for the submission of official transcripts from previously attended universities. These schools must send the transcripts directly to FIT. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, but the degree does not need to be in business administration. In addition, the GMAT or GRE may be required for admission evaluation purposes. A resume and letters of recommendation from people who can attest to the applicant’s professional and academic performance are required as well as a 300-word Statement of Objectives.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Graduate students pursuing an online master’s in management degree from the Florida Institute of Technology will pay $777 per credit hour for their degree. Online graduate students may be entitled to some forms of financial aid such as grants, fellowships, assistantships, loans and graduate research. FIT also participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program and recognizes the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Veterans, active military members, and their family members may be eligible for more than one type of education or tuition benefit via the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

A Master of Science in Management from Florida tech combines advanced business skills in human resources, critical thinking, leadership, planning and development, communications, organizational behavior, and accounting to mold graduates who are prepared to lead companies in senior-level positions. Students can choose from several areas of specialization, including transportation management, acquisition and contract management, information systems management, logistics management and human resources management. Regardless of the focus of the degree, the M.S. in Management provides the leadership and critical thinking skills necessary to tackle tough business problems head-on.

Florida Tech’s online master’s degree in management is built on the school’s reputation as a culturally diverse institution that offers robust learning experiences and a rigorous curriculum. Students will develop management competencies via tested management and business solutions as well as the practical application of management theory. The curriculum is designed to cover the managerial and operational issues facing today’s businesses, integrating content from the Center for Lifecycle and Innovation Management, the Academy of Management, the Society for Advancement of Management, and the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business.

The goal of the Master of Science in Management program is to prepare students for advanced leadership positions in the military, public, and private sectors with specific competencies and skills in identified concentration areas such as management. Students must successfully complete 33 credit hours of graduate coursework as well as other course requirements as noted on a graduate program plan. Students who do not have a sufficient undergraduate background will need to take prerequisites to fulfill the degree requirements. Prerequisites may include algebra and computer literacy, which can be demonstrated by completing a suitable computer course, passing the Extended Studies Department’s proficiency examination, or through the applicant’s undergraduate coursework.

Required courses cover topics such as organizational behavior, management theory and thought, corporate finance, financial accounting, organizational communication, leadership theory and effective management, organizational planning and development, human resources management and an applied management project, which serves as the capstone course for the program. In addition, students are required to complete six credit hours in electives.

Students pursuing the Master of Science in Management degree are taught by professional, experienced faculty who bring real-world experience directly to their classes. The faculty holds doctoral degrees in leadership, organizational management, business, and related fields. FIT’s online-only option provides students the flexibility to earn their degree as their schedule allows while allowing them to continue to fulfill their family and work obligations.

During their final year, graduate students will work directly with organizations who need advanced management advice and expertise. This project offers practical experiences and takes the place of a comprehensive program examination or traditional research thesis. While working to tackle complex challenges that face a particular company, students consult together and apply the learned curriculum and acquired research skills to develop a solution that directly addresses the organization’s concerns and goals.

In addition, the management training capstone experience pushes students to not only apply their ideas but also build confidence for their future leadership position within a business. Students will address difficult and often-complex issues and challenges to become knowledgeable leaders who understand what it means to develop, implement, and manage issues in information technology, logistics, contracts, acquisitions, human resources, and finances.

Students may also submit research findings and articles for publication by relevant industry journals such as the Society for Human Resources, Academy of Management, Society for Advancement of Management, and more. Attending workshops and conferences and submitting articles offers a deeper knowledge of the business management industry. Being published builds professional contacts and resume credentials, and students are able to stay abreast of trends in the industry.
