Certified public accountants and auditors are some of the highest paid business occupations. To become licensed, individuals must receive 150 hours of schooling and pass the professional certification exam. In recent years, online master’s in accounting programs were only offered by a few universities. But times have changed. Today, affordable online options are offered by some of the nation’s top private institutions. These online master’s programs are accredited and serve as preparation for eligibility to sit for the national CPA exam.

Ranking the Cheapest Online Accounting Degree Programs

We looked at approximately 55 private, non-profit colleges and universities listed by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) College Navigator that offered at least one online master’s in accounting degree or closely related program. We confirmed accreditation and narrowed our list to include only schools with a raw affordability of less than $25,000 in annual graduate tuition (inclusive of fees). We selected schools that had been recognized or ranked with major publications like U.S. News and World Report and listed them in order of affordability.

Below are the resulting selections for our 30 most affordable private non-profit colleges for online master’s in accounting degrees in 2018.
