Soon after it was founded in early 2005, California Miramar University purchased Pacific Western University - California's state approval. Part of the asset purchase agreement called for Pacific Western to teach all active students and then transfer the California State Approval to California Miramar. Once those steps were completed, Pacific Western University ceased operations, a process that took approximately 18 months.
The mission of California Miramar University is to provide high quality education on a global scale through online and hybrid methods. California Miramar University is accredited directly by the United States Department of Education. This indicates that students are provided an education that meets the highest standards in education. Recognition by the United States Department of Education demonstrates that the University may offer federal financial aid to students. In addition, the University is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. Although this accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, it is no longer recognized by the Department of Education.

California Miramar University Application Details
High school graduates who will not transfer any credits from other institutes of higher learning must provide an official high school transcript. Students must have a 2.0 or higher GPA for admission. Students who have earned college credit after high school graduation must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

California Miramar University Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition for all associate and bachelor programs at California Miramar University is $406 per credit hour. The average cost to complete an associate degree is $24,360 and for a bachelor's degree the cost for the entire program averages $48,720. Master's level tuition is $585 per credit hour and doctorate programs are $606 per credit hour. The average cost for the entire master's program is $22,815 while the average cost for an entire doctorate program is $39,996.
Financial aid is available for any student who demonstrates need. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Even students who feel they may not qualify due to income should complete the FAFSA as there are several factors used to determine need. Students must be a United States citizen or eligible non-citizen and must have a high school diploma or GED. Students must be enrolled in a program at California Miramar University and must continue making satisfactory progress toward graduation.

Doctor of Business Administration, Strategic Management Concentration
The Doctor of Business Administration with a Strategic Management Concentration is available in a completely online format. The program is designed to help students develop managmenet theories by providing extensive knowledge of literature and theory. The program requires 66 semester credits beyond a Master's degree and a comprehensive examination is required prior to the dissertation process.
The Strategic Management concentration prepares students for leadership positions in business or for consulting careers. Students are able to evaluate the big picture and think strategically. Upon completion of the program, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of different disciplines and concepts related to business as well as how to critically analyze literature and evidence in strategic management. Students develop outstanding communication skills and are able to demonstrate content using research methodology. Students are also prepared to perform academic research that enables them to produce written documentation on the results of that research. Students are also able to analyze multiple data collections as well as develop, implement and evaluate strategic planning.
To insure security and integrity, the University requires all students to complete mid-term and final examinations under supervision of a proctor. Days and times a proctor is available at the San Diego or Montebello locations are published no later than the end of the third week of the student session. Any student who cannot attend a proctored examination at one of the California Miramar sites may complete a proctor request from to allow the student to take the examination off-campus under the supervision of a proctor.
