Indiana University of Pennsylvania, commonly called IUP, is a public, research institution of higher learning residing in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. It is among the largest public universities in the commonwealth. Its campus spans 374 acres and features a mix of historical charm with contemporary structures. It is home to 59 major buildings and 11 athletic fields. The university is a comprehensive, research-based, vibrant institution that deeply focuses on students, high quality instruction, and public service. Indiana University of Pennsylvania offers 132 undergraduate degree programs, 52 master's programs, and 12 doctoral programs through eight separate colleges and schools. The colleges and schools include: Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, College of Education and Communications, College of Fine Arts, College of Health and Human Services, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Cook Honors College, and School of Graduate Studies and Research. IUP is the only institution in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education that offers Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Indiana University of Pennsylvania was founded in 1875 as Indiana Normal School.

It began with just 225 students in one building. In 1920, ownership of the school was passed to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and its name changed to Indiana State Teachers College and it was given the ability to grant degrees. In 1959, the college changed its name to Indiana State College. It finally became Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1965 and it first started to offer doctoral programs. Today, IUP is home to nearly 13,000 students.

• In-state tuition: $439.60 for one credit including fees, $4,721.20 for full-time of 12 credits including fees, and $6,527.20 for maximum load of 18 credits including fees

Federal Work-Study Program

IUP participates in the Federal Work-Study program that is funded by the U.S. government. Students that are eligible are able to work part-time to earn money to pay for their college education. Jobs are available both on and off-campus and students are able to work up to 25 hours per week when classes are in session and 40 hours a week during breaks. Students are paid every other week and pay varies on various factors, such as employer, position, qualifications, and experience.

Master of Arts in Criminology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania

The Master of Arts in Criminology at IUP was designed to prepare students for advanced careers in the administration of criminal justice and research or to enter advanced doctoral degree programs in the field. The program provides students with a solid foundation in criminology and criminal justice and involves rigorous study in criminology theory, legal issues, research methodology, organizational dynamics, quantitative analysis, and ethical and philosophical issues in criminology.

To complete the degree, students must finish 30 semester hours and they have the ability to choose between a thesis and non-thesis option. The thesis selection requires students to complete a six-credit thesis and the non-thesis track requires the completion of six hours of elective courses. The core courses in the program include criminological theory, legal issues in criminology, organizational dynamics within the criminal justice system, ethical and philosophical issues in criminology, and quantitative strategies for analysis in criminology. Students have the ability to complete the program full or part-time and online or on-campus at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
