MidAmerica Nazarene University is a university in Kansas with a liberal arts emphasis. Founded in 1966, it grew because of the hard work and money raising campaigns implemented by the Church of the Nazarene. Originally called Mid-America Nazarene College, it became a university in the 1990s. Many call the campus MNU rather than use its full name, but some also refer to it as MidAmerica. Though the Church looked at several locations for the campus, it settled on the town of Olathe after a former banker living in the area donated a large portion of his own land. The campus now covers more than 100 acres.

MidAmerica Nazarene University is fairly unique because it is one of only eight campuses affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene. Each of those schools operates in a different part of the country and agrees to only accept and target students living in that region. When you attend classes here, the majority of your peers will come from the Midwest. The Church itself provides the university with the funding it needs to operate.

Though the university initially offered only undergrad programs, it now offers opportunities for graduate students too. There are more than 40 degree options available for undergrads and several graduate programs in fields like business and nursing. MNU accepts more than 80% of the applications that it receives in a given year and has an enrollment that includes around 1,200 undergrads and 200 graduate students.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Accreditation Details

Though MidAmerica Nazarene University has accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), a branch of the HLC called the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) is actually the organization that accredited the university. As this is a type of regional accreditation, you have the right to seek financial aid and use government funding to pay for your education. The education programs that MidAmerica offer have accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and its music programs have accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). All bachelor's and graduate nursing programs at MidAmerica have accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) too.

MidAmerica Nazarene University Application Requirements

NMU has a somewhat unique application process because it requires that all prospective students know what they want to study before they apply. You'll need to pick the degree or certificate program that you want to enroll in and select the specific application designed for that program. The application for the nursing administration program features eight pages. The first page goes over what you'll need to fill out the application. You must then provide some contact information, explain how you heard about the university, list how you will pay for your costs and state which campus you want to attend.

The application includes an education history page and an employment history page. These pages let you show the university that you have a college degree and that you have the experience necessary to study nursing administration. You must also provide the university with some statistical data, sign disclosure statements and read through the technology requirements of the program. The university will ask for information relating to your nursing license because this program is only open to working nurses and those with a valid license. You need to supply your license number and the state in which you have your license. MidAmerica Nazarene University will then direct you to the final page, which lets you go over your information one last time before submitting your application.

Tuition and Financial Aid

MidAmerica Nazarene University offers several Master of Science in Nursing programs in different concentrations. All of these programs charge a rate per credit hour, but this rate varies based on whether you enroll in an online program or one that takes place on campus. The cost of online students is $507 per credit hour, but you'll save some money on transportation and other costs. If you enroll in the university's more traditional nursing program, your tuition will come in at $494 per credit hour. You must take at least 39 credits to graduate, which will help you figure out your total cost, but some students take more classes at the graduate level.

All students hoping to attend MidAmerica Nazarene University can apply for financial aid. The university offers a tuition discount for those who transfer in credits from another school and for families who send two or more students to the university. It also accepts payments made by employers and military benefits. When you file the FAFSA, you can find out if you qualify for any grants that will help you pay for your education too. MNU financial aid counselors can talk with you about Stafford loans and the total amount that you can borrow, but they can also recommend some private student loans too.

Master of Science in Nursing in Nursing Healthcare Administration

MidAmerica Nazarene University offers a Master of Science in Nursing program with several tracks or concentrations available, including those in Education and Public Health. One of the more popular concentrations is in Healthcare Administration. Designed for those who already have a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing as well as a nursing license, this program can train you on working as an officer manager or the CEO of a health care organization. All the courses in this program take place over eight weeks instead of the standard 16 weeks, which lets you take two classes in the same amount of time it would usually take to finish just one. You can enroll in the program on its Kansas campus or in the online version of the program, and many students take a combination of both types of classes.
