Robert Morris University is a small college in Moon, Pennsylvania that has a good reputation among locals. More than 80% of all incoming freshmen are from cities around Pennsylvania, and a large population of those students come from Pittsburgh. The layout of the campus and its catalog look quite different today. When first founded in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy, classes met in a number of buildings in the downtown area of the city and anywhere the college could find space. After taking over an old family home and farm in Moon, the college changed its name to Robert Morris Junior College and offered associate's degrees. It officially became Robert Morris University in 2002 after expanding its programs to include those that culminated in a bachelor's degree for graduating students.
Located just a short drive from Pittsburgh, the RMU campus sits on more than 200 acres of land and its home to more than 20 buildings that have classrooms for students and offices for professors. Though the university previously operated a campus in downtown Pittsburgh that was more convenient for some students. RMU later shut down that branch and sold the property. The university now has five colleges that are home to departments that focus on engineering, nursing and other topics. Students can enroll in one of the 60 undergrad programs available or one of the 23 graduate and doctoral programs offered by RMU.
Robert Morris University offers one of the best nursing programs in Pittsburgh and in all of Pennsylvania. This program has accreditation from the Accreditation Commission For Education in Nursing, Inc., which is one of the leading organizations responsible for accrediting nursing programs. The university also has accreditation from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education for its business programs. These bodies granted the university accreditation for both its undergraduate and graduate programs in those fields. If you wonder if the university has regional accreditation, you can rest assured that this type of accreditation comes from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. NCACS is a type of regional accreditation that allows you to accept financial aid packages from both the university itself and the government.
The average SAT score for students accepted into Robert Morris University is 1034, and around 30% of those accepted every year graduate at or near the top of their classes. While RMU places a high level of importance on grades and test scores, it also looks for the best students every year. When you fill out the online application, you have the chance to talk about your interests, the goals you have for the future, why you want to study at RMU and what you want to study. The online application also asks about your high school grades and any worthwhile experiences you had outside of school. You must supply the university with an official high school transcript and an ACT or SAT score. RMU does not charge an application fee.
Those applying to the university's graduate school must file the online application and file for financial aid. The university requires a bank statement and a financial state of all international students that shows they can afford the cost of attending college. All regular students will need to submit a statement of purpose, an up to date resume and two letters of recommendation. Depending on the program you want to study, you will need to take and submit a score from either the GRE or the GMAT.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Robert Morris University charges $8,400 per quarter for full time students who take between 12 and 24 credits during that quarter. If you take six to 11 credits, the university will charge you $5,600 per quarter. RMU also offers less than part time tuition rates for those taking fewer than six credits, which comes out to $2,800 a quarter. Certain programs like those in culinary arts, surgical technology or nursing come with additional charges of up to $1,200 per quarter. The graduate school charges $2,700 per four credit class that you take. Students living on campus will pay more than $12,000 a year for a dorm room and meal plan.
The sooner that you fill out and file the FAFSA, the sooner RMU will get in touch with you regarding your financial aid package. More than 90% of its students receive at least one type of aid, and a small number of students receive enough financial aid to cover all their costs and fees. RMU has scholarships available for those who qualify, including some based on need and others based on merit. You may receive grants from the state or federal government and take out a few loans too. In addition to government loans, there are loans available for parents and private student loans too.
Human Resources Degrees
At Robert Morris University, you have a few options regarding how and where you study human resources. The university introduced a Master of Science in Human Resources Management that takes place fully online. Designed for those who have a business degree and those who work full time, this program gives you the chance to take all the same classes you would in a more traditional program but over the Internet. The program teaches you how to think for yourself, develop new strategies based on the information you have available and use new concepts in the workplace. RMU offers eight week classes and expects you to take two classes during a standard semester, which lets you graduate in two years or less. The 10 classes that you must take include employee rights under law, benefits administration, human resource management current issues, strategic HR management and a class on recruiting new workers.
The university also offers a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management. This is a good choice for those who want to better develop their careers and earn more money after completing an MBA. A similar program is the Master of Science in Human Resources Management that is available on the RMU campus. MS students will need to take more core business courses than MBA students do. Some of the human resources management courses available at Robert Morris University include training and development through performance management, strategic management and compensation management.
