Robert Morris University is a small college in Moon, Pennsylvania that has a good reputation among locals. More than 80% of all incoming freshmen are from cities around Pennsylvania, and a large population of those students come from Pittsburgh. The layout of the campus and its catalog look quite different today. When first founded in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy, classes met in a number of buildings in the downtown area of the city and anywhere the college could find space. After taking over an old family home and farm in Moon, the college changed its name to Robert Morris Junior College and offered associate's degrees. It officially became Robert Morris University in 2002 after expanding its programs to include those that culminated in a bachelor's degree for graduating students.

Located just a short drive from Pittsburgh, the RMU campus sits on more than 200 acres of land and its home to more than 20 buildings that have classrooms for students and offices for professors. Though the university previously operated a campus in downtown Pittsburgh that was more convenient for some students. RMU later shut down that branch and sold the property. The university now has five colleges that are home to departments that focus on engineering, nursing and other topics. Students can enroll in one of the 60 undergrad programs available or one of the 23 graduate and doctoral programs offered by RMU.

Accreditation Details

Robert Morris University offers one of the best nursing programs in Pittsburgh and in all of Pennsylvania. This program has accreditation from the Accreditation Commission For Education in Nursing, Inc., which is one of the leading organizations responsible for accrediting nursing programs. The university also has accreditation from the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education for its business programs. These bodies granted the university accreditation for both its undergraduate and graduate programs in those fields. If you wonder if the university has regional accreditation, you can rest assured that this type of accreditation comes from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. NCACS is a type of regional accreditation that allows you to accept financial aid packages from both the university itself and the government.

Application Requirements

The average SAT score for students accepted into Robert Morris University is 1034, and around 30% of those accepted every year graduate at or near the top of their classes. While RMU places a high level of importance on grades and test scores, it also looks for the best students every year. When you fill out the online application, you have the chance to talk about your interests, the goals you have for the future, why you want to study at RMU and what you want to study. The online application also asks about your high school grades and any worthwhile experiences you had outside of school. You must supply the university with an official high school transcript and an ACT or SAT score. RMU does not charge an application fee.

Those applying to the university's graduate school must file the online application and file for financial aid. The university requires a bank statement and a financial state of all international students that shows they can afford the cost of attending college. All regular students will need to submit a statement of purpose, an up to date resume and two letters of recommendation. Depending on the program you want to study, you will need to take and submit a score from either the GRE or the GMAT.
