Stanford University Accreditation Details
Stanford University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges – also known as the WASC. Part of the accreditation process includes upholding two core values; including a commitment to institutional capacity and the commitment to educational effectiveness.
The University does have specific programs that are accredited separately and have a specialized accreditation process that they must follow.
Stanford University Application Requirements
Stanford University strives to select the best and most motivated students to take part in their campus experience each year – therefore, the admissions process is a stringent one.
Prospective undergraduate students are required to complete the application process. Prospects are required to complete the university application (also called the Common Application); submit SAT or ACT test scores; submit an official school report and transcripts; submit a letter of recommendation from a counselor; provide two evaluations from former or current teachers; and submit payment for the application fee. Applications must be received by the stated deadlines in order to be considered. November 1st of the calendar year marks the early action period, and January 3rd of the calendar year marks the regular decision submission deadline. For transfer students, the application is the same, although it needs to be submitted by March 15th of the calendar year for consideration. Veterans and International students are encouraged to apply; the applications are similar, with a few variations that need to be catered to appropriately. Online applications are preferred, although the school will accept documents via mail, as well.
For graduate students interested in the PhD. In Business program, a completed application includes:
- A statement of purpose – a brief essay highlighting your past work and forward goals and objectives
- An updated resume or CV
- Three letters of reference – business faculty prefer these letters be provided by academic advisors or former mentors who can attest to your research skills and past educational success;
- GMAT or GRE test scores
- TOEFL score (if applicable, for international students)
- Updated unofficial transcripts
- A completed online application
- Application fee – $125
To be eligible for the PhD. Program, applicants must have a completed Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university accredited by a reputable association or a completed international degree that is equal to a U.S. degree in good standing.
Stanford University does not require a minimum GPA, GMAT or GRE score or minimum level of coursework or work experience to be considered for admission. The university prides itself on selecting the best – so they evaluate each applicant on the basis of academic excellence, intellectual vitality and personal context. For entry into the PhD. Program, candidates are not only selected on education merit, but on their personal characteristics, as well. These may include anything from their creativity to the ability to receive criticism and grow.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The 2015-2016 undergraduate tuition rates are $15,243 per semester. These fees do not include campus charges and housing fees, which would significantly increase this amount per semester depending on the needs of the individual student.
For graduate students, the tuition rates are $15,243 for 11-18 credit hours. For a graduate student who is interested in attending part time, the rates are slightly less – $9,910. For graduate business students, the first year MBA program costs $21,350 per semester; and for the second year MBA program, the cost is $20,625 per semester. These numbers do not include additional university related fees.
Stanford University offers a relatively comprehensive student financial aid program for all undergraduate and graduate prospects. They expect students to not only apply for and utilize resources from the state, federal and private funding sources; but also acknowledge that acceptance into Stanford and a commitment to attend symbolize an ability to pay the required tuition and related fees.
Graduate students may be eligible to participate in fellowships, research assistantships and different teaching assistantships to help fund their tuition on an annual basis.

The application process for this program is extremely challenging; as very few participants are selected each cohort. For the 2015 academic year, no more than 100 participants were selected. Participants are chosen based on their motivation, academic excellence and dedication to the field.
