University of Texas at Tyler

The University of Texas at Tyler, usually referred to as UT Tyler, is a small campus in the University of Texas System in the town of Tyler. Unlike other campuses that opened as a part of the system, this university opened as its own standalone college. Founded as Tyler State College in 1971, it became Texas Eastern University just a few years later. After it became part of the UT system, it operated as a senior university. Instead of offering complete college programs, students transferred to the university and finished out their junior and senior years there. It wasn't until the 1990s that the university added introductory and lower-level courses to its curriculum. This led to UT Tyler also adding graduate studies to its curriculum.

Though the campus still features some of its earliest buildings, it also grew over the years and added new buildings that have a more modern look. Many locals know the campus because of Riley Tower, which is one of the largest carillon bell towers in the state. The campus is also home to a large performing arts center that puts on stage shows produced by students every year and four residence halls. UT Tyler is a member of the NCAA and has 15 teams that students, faculty, alumni and locals support every year.

University of Texas at Tyler Accreditation Details

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) did extensive research on the university before granting it accreditation, but the SACS also requires that the university take steps to maintain its accreditation too. It does a renewal investigation every 10 years. Those entering one of its engineering programs in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering will find that those programs have accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology, Inc. (ABET). The university also has accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for its business program and from the Teacher Education Accreditation Council for its teaching program. The University of Texas at Tyler also has accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering for its programs in nursing and industrial technology.

University of Texas at Tyler Application Requirements

UT Tyler eliminated paper applications and transitioned to an online system to help students apply and receive an answer quicker. When you apply, you'll need to first visit the official website of the graduate schools, select the application button and then create your own individual account. The password and use name that you choose will let you go back in and work on your application as you have time available, but you can also use that information to view whether the university needs additional information or if it accepted you into one of its programs. A nonrefundable application fee of $40 is due at the time that you submit that application.

You must also take the General Records Examination (GRE) and submit your official score on this test to the university. If you want to enroll in its MBA program, you will need to submit a score from the GMAT instead. The university also requires an official college transcript and at least one letter of recommendation. You may also need to supply the department you apply to with a copy of your current resume. If you want to take classes on campus and are younger than 22, you may need to show proof that you have updated vaccinations too.

Tuition and Financial Aid
